The Monti Lucretili Park

The territory of the Park includes, among other things, Monte Pellecchia (1,369 m), Monte Gennaro (1,272 m) and Monte Morra (1,036 m). Some areas show evidence of settlements dating back to prehistoric times. The trail network of the Monti Lucretili Park consists of 53 official CAI (Italian Alpine Club) trails for a total length of over 230 km.

The whole territory of the Park is suitable for a variety of different types of excursions, from mountain biking and Nordic walking to horseback riding. Enjoy your outdoor activities at any time of the year while experiencing sweeping views, fresh air, and peaceful settings.

 

Vallinfreda and Riofreddo

Return back on your bike and head off the Park onto the Strada Provinciale 36/b towards Vallinfreda, located 900 meters above sea level at the base of Monte Aguzzo. Enjoy the stunning views and the well-preserved medieval layout of the village. Take a moment to admire the remains of the castle and charming small churches.

Continuing along the Strada Provinciale 38/a you will eventually make it to Riofreddo, a small and delightful village with a population of only 800 people, a real crossway with Via Tiburtina and the Aniene Valley and a member of the Authentic Villages of Italy Association (Borghi Autentici d’Italia).

 

 

The Aniene Valley

Located just a short distance away on the Via Tiburtina, Arsoli awaits you with its quaint hilltop location, crowned by the magnificent 10th-century Castello Massimo. Alongside the castle, the village also boasts a number of other historic buildings, including the museum in the medieval center[31] , where you can get a glimpse into the daily life of the past.

From Arsoli, we recommend taking a drive through the Aniene Valley on the SP 39/b, a road winding its way along the scenic mountain ridge up to Cervara di Roma, nestled at over 1,000 meters within the Monti Simbruini Natural Park.

Cervara makes a stopover worthwhile after a motorcycle ride, particularly for the opportunity to explore its historic center, which serves as an open-air museum, adorned with statues and poetic fragments. The steep winding staircase to the summit is definitely worth the climb for the panoramic view of the valley.

 

Tivoli

The Strada Regionale 411, also known as Sublacense, leads back to the Via Tiburtina, taking you to the charming city of Tivoli upon crossing Vicovaro. Once there, you may either opt to explore the picturesque historic center, characterized by its medieval alleys and the grand Rocca Pia, or to extend your visit by exploring one of the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Villa Adriana or Villa d’Este. Another option you may pick is a romantic stroll through the scenic Villa Gregoriana, or take in the grandeur of the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor.
