Young, elegant, and commanding, she became the new lady of the fief and was affectionately called “Madama” by the locals. Her presence was more than a symbol of prestige: she brought culture, sophistication, and a sense of community that still infuses the festival dedicated to her today.

Four Districts, a Thousand Emotions

The town is divided into four historic districts: Borgo, Castelluccio, Empolitano, and Santa Maria della Vittoria. Each corner bursts with colors, flags, and banners telling stories of pride and belonging. For months, residents prepare parades, sets, and costumes, preserving artisanal skills and historical secrets passed down through generations.

Participants wear exquisite Renaissance costumes made of silk, velvet, and brocade, embroidered with gold and pearls, faithfully recreating 16th-century elegance. The Palio is more than a showcase of beauty, it is a test of skill and bravery. The Saracen and Flag Jousts challenge knights and riders, while the final race determines the winner of the Palio.
